Background
The Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) established the Department of Energy (DoE) under Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources with a mission to ‘promote and govern the use of clean, affordable and reliable renewable energy systems for socio-economic development. The RGoB has since introduced several policies and commissioned various studies to pave the way for meeting future energy demands due to increase in urbanization, the industry sector, transportation and climate change.

Current Status
The project is well on track with 75% progress achieved as on 30 November 2024 and managed by highly professional team. With the onset of winter (minimum -12 degree), the project has been facing construction challenges due to adverse weather conditions.
However, the team is confident of completing as scheduled for handover in March/April 2025. Upon completion, the project will generate 25Million units of electricity annually.
